New Product Development (NPD) - Basics

New Product Development process brings out all the necessary steps needed to design and launch a product effectively into the market. The normal process used for developing any kind of product is- idea generation, idea screening, developing and testing the product concept, performing business analysis, market testing, technical implementation and finally commercializing the product. Every product manufacturing organization follows this process with slight changes according to their requirement. Product development can be considered as a continuous process because most of the organizations in market look to attract customers through innovative designs, products and services.

From the above process one thing can be noted that after every important task a review or screening will be done so that an effective product can be generated at the end. Today many new product developing projects are failing due to poor planning and inability in understanding market expectations.
